Machine tool supplier Emag (Farmington Hills, Michigan) is participating in the Michigan Advanced Technician Training (MAT2) program along with Oakland County Community College (Southfield, Michigan) and Henry Ford Community College (Dearborn, Michigan). The three-year program in mechatronics provides high school graduates with advanced associate degrees. The students’ training is completely funded by employers, who may also offer career opportunities.
The program is officially sponsored by Orbitak International and a number of Detroit-area manufacturers and machinery companies, including Emag. Students whose training is funded by the company follow a combined classroom and work curriculum, with paid employment at Emag during the last two years of their schooling.
In other news, Emag has announced its participation in the Michigan New Jobs Training Program initiative led by Sen. Debbie Stabenow. Ms. Stabenow is introducing the Skills for New Jobs Act in Congress, which would involve federal matching funds to support states that are helping community colleges and local businesses to create more job training and retraining opportunities.
