Recently opened on a 146-acre campus adjacent to Florence-Darlington Technical College in Florence, South Carolina, the Southeastern Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SiMT) provides local industry with advanced machine tool training. SiMT offers engineering, CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping and 3D virtual reality services as well as workforce development and business process training. Housed within the facility is the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC), which provides machine tool systems training for the southeastern United States.

The center offers an array of machine tool and support technologies, including EDM, waterjet, multi-axis machining centers, CNC mill-turns, grinders, CAD/CAM software and post-processing modules. Training labs and classrooms with human-machine interface (HMI) stations enable both design and operations personnel to learn programming and machine control protocols via the operator panel simulators.

At an 18,000-square-foot manufacturing arena, operators can learn both the machining techniques and the programming and control skills necessary to run sophisticated machine tools. More than 20 Emco Maier machining centers with Siemens Sinumerik CNCs are available for training and comparative machining strategy analysis. The center also features 25 workstations for offline programming via WinNC, a control-specific software developed by Emco to allow simultaneous training of various control systems. This allows students or operators to learn the particulars of multiple control programs on a single Siemens simulator.

SiMT also offers customized training on-site at client facilities, as well as consulting services for the development of new techniques for increased productivity, efficiency and quality.
