Walter USA has expanded its Proto-max series of high-performance solid carbide end mills with the Prototyp Proto-max "Tough Guys" (TG) end mills, designed for use with steel, stainless steel, cast iron and super alloys. The tools are suitable for plunging or inclined plunging for deep cavities, as well as pocket, contour and shoulder milling. The end mills are available in diameters ranging from 2 to 25 mm with three, four or five cutting edges, as well as a reduced neck option.
According to Walter USA, the end mills provide sufficient room for chip removal in slot milling operations ranging to 0.9×Dc, and the carbide substrate serves to counteract vibration-induced fractures to the cutting edge. The rear cutting edge has a reinforced core designed for high stability, and the tool's titanium aluminum nitride coating reduces wear for longer tool life.
