Komet’s Quatron hi.feed milling cutter provides four indexable inserts for roughing applications involving drilling or plunge milling. The inserts are said to provide rapid removal of high chip volumes. In addition, the indexable inserts have a radial cutting action for improved flexibility in plunge and pocket milling compared to two- or three-edged inserts, the company says.
Rather than cutting deep grooves or large cavities with multiple boring tools, users can achieve various diameters and complex contours in one roughing operation by milling with an axial and a horizontal feed. Also, the milling cutter can use the same indexable inserts for drilling as well as milling. The BK8425 coating increases tool life while enabling universal use of the milling cutter for steel, cast iron and stainless materials, the company says.
