Seco’s Feedmax-P drill is designed to boost holemaking performance for ISO P (steel) and cast iron workpiece materials. The solid carbide drill’s geometry and coating can increase drilling productivity by as much as 35 percent while providing longer tool life, according to the company.
The geometry and TiAlN coating are said to improve chip management and deliver high application security. In addition to strong, straight cutting edges, the drill’s coolant holes are close to the cutting edges for efficient cooling; its narrow land margins also minimize the heat exposed to the drill. The flute is designed to protect drill point corners and maximize chip control and evacuation. In one application, the company says that these features enable cutting speeds of 623 fpm in SMG P5 without sacrificing tool life.
The drill is available in diameters ranging from 0.078" to 0.787" (2 to 20 mm), and in length-to-diameter ratios of 3×D, 5×D and 7×D. All drills come standard with through-the-tool coolant channels. Custom versions, including intermediate sizes and chamfer and step drills, are also available.
