Available from ITI Tooling Inc., the Varia Unicam modular toolholding system features a custom, single-point clamp that requires loosening and tightening only one setscrew. A half-turn to the left releases the used tool, while a half-turn to the right secures a new one. As a result, tool exchanges require seconds, without compromising precision or the quality of surface finish, says the company.

The system’s detent, which is available on many units, orients the locking clamp toward the front of the machine each time the spindle stops. This can eliminate wasted time associated with searching for the clamp’s setscrew. In addition, operators no longer need to touch hot or sharp tools to rotate the spindle.
