General Inspection offers the Gi-360 fastener sorting system, featuring a dual feeder that can run both studs and bolts in multiple sizes. The sorting machine is built onto a rail system that enables it to slide from one side of the feeder to the other, then lock into place to ensure stability. According to the company, the system eliminates the need to purchase multiple machines for different workpiece profiles and requires little change-over time.
Eight laser beams perpendicular to the workpiece axis check dimensional values such as straightness, shank length and thread measurements. A redesigned accepted-parts chute dissipates the kinetic energy of the good workpieces as they exit the machine, preventing them from hitting or damaging one another in the bin. The system is capable of rates ranging to 500 ppm. Workpiece diameters range from 4 to 35 mm, with lengths of 10 to 150 mm. Options include super eddy current and vision stations for viewing the ends of the fasteners.
