Sandvik Coromant’s CB7015 indexable insert is intended to be a time-saving tool for hard-part turning. The cubic-boron-nitride (cBN) grade covers a range of applications and delivers optimal finish quality in applications such as transmission component production. According to the company, it is particularly suited for turning case-hardened steels ranging in hardness from 58 to 65 HRc. With the Safe-Lock clamping system, the insert grade offers a wear-resistant ceramic binder for dry machining.
The cBN product range includes inserts with standard corner radii and wiper geometries as well as an Xcel version. The wiper geometry of the Xcel insert enables a range of process optimizations including improved finishes for standard cutting data. It also provides higher finish quality with increased feeds to achieve roughness grades below 3.2 microns. With Xcel geometries and feeds of 0.011", even roughness grades of 1 micron are possible, according to the company. Offering as many as eight cutting edges, the Xcel insert is also said to enable shorter production times and reduced tool costs per component. Dry machining avoids costs associated with coolant and promotes low-cost chip disposal.
