Stevens Engineering’s 626 modular vise is a versatile workpiece clamping device for VMCs and HMCs. Originally designed to mount directly to a subplate or tombstone with the company’s standard grid pattern, it is now modified to fit alternative grid patterns.
The company’s standard grid pattern features ½-13 UNC tapped holes spaced at 1.250". To match users’ existing workholding components, the company manufactures to custom spacings of 1.50", 2.00", 20 mm and 25 mm. It also accommodates various thread and locating hole sizes in both inch and metric units.
Features of the modular vise include quick and accurate setup using precision pull dowels and socket head cap screws, the company says. A two-piece design allows adjustable spacing between fixed and moving jaws for clamping a range of part sizes. Also, multiple vises can be placed in line for accurate clamping of long parts without time-consuming alignment, the company says. A low-profile design is said to provide optimal tool clearance.
