Doosan’s Lynx 220LSY series of compact, high-speed multitasking turning centers feature a Y axis with milling and drilling capabilities to eliminate the need for secondary machining operations. The turning centers are said to produce consistent part quality and predictable throughput without operator intervention.
The Y axis enables the milling cutter to machine above or below centerline, expanding the range of workpieces that can be machined without custom rotary toolholders. Operations that are possible with the Y axis include drilling and tapping off-center cross-holes, milling flats, and rough-finishing of keyways. The Y-axis travel measures 4.13" (±2.065"), and the Y-axis rapid traverse rate ranges to 394 ipm. X- and Z-axis travels measure 8.07" × 22", and rapid traverse rates are 1,181 ipm and 1,417 ipm in the X and Z axes, respectively.
The subspindle enables complete machining of parts in one setup, with a full C-axis design for milling, drilling and tapping on the back sides of parts. Swing over the bed is 23.6", while swing over the carriage is 15.7". The multitasking centers accommodate a maximum turning diameter of 11.8" and maximum turning length of 20.0". Bar capacity ranges from 2" on the Lynx22LYA to 2.628" on the Lynx22LYC. The chucks on the two models measure 6.5" and 8", respectively.
The machine bed is a single-piece Meehanite casting with ribbing to prevent deformation and twisting. The roller-type linear motion guideways are on a 30-degree angle to maintain a minimal and constant distance from tooltip to guideway, ensuring rigidity, limiting deformation under heavy loads and promoting chip flow. The multitasking centers feature 12-station turrets and 24 index positions. They also feature a BMT 45 toolholder. Boring bar diameter is 1.25". A high-torque servomotor rotates the turret at high speeds and offers an indexing time of 0.11 sec. The machines also are equipped with EZ Guide i with a conversational programming system.
