Geometric has released its NestingWorks 2016 3D nesting software for automatically nesting layouts of SolidWorks parts and assemblies for production. This application is integrated within SolidWorks 2016, enabling automated nesting of flat or 3D part or assembly models made from sheet stock, including sheet metal, plates, plastics or composites. The software enables the efficient optimization of sheet-stock layouts in order to produce the maximum number of parts from a single piece of raw material, saving time and material usage. One application for the software, according to the company, is in conjunction with SolidWorks and CAMWorks to optimize material usage in laser cutting operations.
The software provides 3D true-shape layouts, enabling the user to nest parts of varying thicknesses. The solution is also compatible with downstream machining and manufacturing applications, Geometric says.
