Open Mind Technologies will preview version 2016.1 of its HyperMill CAM featuring a finishing strategy from the modular HyperMill Maxx machining performance package. Tangent plane machining capability is said to provide machining time savings of as much as 90 percent. Extended functions for 3D and five-axis machining tasks, turn-mill cycles and other improvements to HyperCAD-S round out the range of functions available in HyperMill 2016.1.
According to Open Mind, the tangent plane machining function offers users a boost in efficiency for finishing planes and freeform surfaces. Using conical barrel cutters allows for larger path distances for the same theoretical scallop height. HyperMill machining strategies take advantage of the large radius of the barrel shape, optimizing inclination to the faces, shortening machining times and achieving high surface quality. The strategy is efficient and reliable thanks to toolpath verification, says the company.
Version 2016.1 features the modular HyperMill Maxx Machining performance package offering a range of optional high-performance strategies for roughing and finishing.
