Lovejoy Tool Company’s PCD chip control geometry inserts are designed to break chips and increase production. According to the company, nests of stringy aluminum and copper alloys are common in turning and boring applications, especially on a screw machine. The chip control geometry is said to break the chip at the cutting point, creating smaller chips and virtually eliminating nests. This decreases production time and improves surface finish, the company says. Also, the inserts produce less cutting pressure and heat that can expand parts, which increases tool life.
The inserts are available in two chipbreaker geometries, tailored to finishing or general-purpose machining, and three PCD grades in a variety of common shapes.
