To encourage businesses to use estimating tools to improve the quoting and sales cycle. MIE Solutions has released free versions of its MIE Quote IT CadSolid Software and MIE Trak ERP software for download and testing. Quote IT is a quoting and estimating package designed to help businesses manage quotes, estimates and sales activities. The software can import any engineering bill of materials (EBOM, a bill of materials that reflects the product as designed by engineering) exported from any CAD or modeling package directly into the quoting and estimating module. If there are modifications to the EBOM, the software takes care of all associations automatically.
The package is able to handle hundreds of concurrent users, the company says. With the ability to create formulas for each operation, an estimator with basic knowledge of manufacturing and the ability to read a design can generate estimates that are within pennies of the per-pert price. Additionally, the ability to have multiple quotes per item enables users to evaluate different manufacturing methods and costs to come up with the best price for the customer. True costs and prices can be quickly and easily estimated by simply entering labor operations and a bill of material, the company says.
The other free download, MIETrak is designed for sheet metal fabricators, precision engineers and manufaturers. Formerly known as FabriTrak, the software incorporates MRP, ERP, scheduling and shop floor data capture along with bar-coding and costing capabilities.
