Smaller Machining Center Maintains High Volumetric Accuracy

DMG MORI has extended the high-precision machining centers in its Dixi series to include the smaller Dixi 125 for workpieces with diameters ranging to 1,250 mm. Despite its smaller size, it provides a work area of 1,250 × 1,250 × 1,150 mm and an NC rotary table with maximum load capacity of 2,000 kg. Like its bigger sister models, this machine provides high volumetric accuracy (less than 15 microns) thanks to manually-scraped guide contact surfaces with flatness and straightness values of 3 microns when mounted, and a machine structure that is said to limit geometric tolerances. Positioning accuracy in the X, Y and Z axes is 4, 3 and 4 microns, respectively, and 4 arcseconds for the B and C axes.
The Dixi 125 is available in a four- or five-axis version with application-specific kinematics (A or B axis) and a range of available spindles. Direct-drive motors enable milling and turning in a single setup.
Cooling concepts include fully water-cooled feed drives and guide contact surfaces to ensure absolute thermal stability. In addition, acceleration rates ranging to 6 m/sec. and rapid traverse rates of 60 m/min. provide the dynamics necessary production manufacturing of sophisticated, precision components, says DMG MORI. A 980-L coolant unit with reference-guided temperature control of the feed drives, guides and machine structure, a “thermos shield,” and individual thermal compensation features including spindle growth sensor, as well as a powerful machine cooling unit further promote the Dixi 125’s thermal stability.
The machine also comes equipped with the company’s Celos system. This uniform, app-based user interface with its unique multi-touch screen is as simple to operate as a smartphone, according to DMG MORI. As a result, users benefit from time savings in setup and calculation of technical values and information search.
