Seco Tools’ TP3500 grade offers improved edge toughness and wear resistance in demanding applications that require long and consistent tool life. The grade features a durable coating produced during the DurAtomic process, which manipulates the aluminum oxide crystalline structure at the atomic level. This process increases edge toughness and wear resistance while producing a quality surface finish, the company says. The grade also features a cobalt-enriched substrate that increases its toughness.
Suited for applications ranging from finishing to heavy interrupted cuts, the grade is said to perform well with or without coolant. Additionally, the grade can handle both high speed and feed rates, increasing productivity. At aggressive feed rates, the grade can accommodate speeds as fast as 1,400 sfpm for soft steels and 800 sfpm for structural steels. High flank wear resistance contributes to holding tight tolerances on parts throughout the life of the insert.
