Elrod Machine’s Rigid Tapping Adapter is designed to enable a CNC knee mill or bed mill to perform rigid tapping like a CNC machining center. The adapter accommodates tap sizes ranging from 2-56 through 5/8-11 and is suited for materials including mild steel, aluminum and plastics.

Holding the tap in a drill chuck or an ER collet chuck decreases setup time by reducing tool length, the company says. In addition, cycle times are short because the operator is not required to move the knee up and down during a program to adjust for tapping-head length. The adapter can be purchased with a power drawbar option or used with an existing power drawbar.
