Surfware, Inc., developer of Surfcam CAD/CAM systems, and Swift-Carb CNC, a New Tech cutting tools company, have partnered to offer the Swift-Carb TrueMill certified series of cutting tools. With the release of Velocity 4, TrueMill technology for milling has achieved new levels of productivity, Surfware says, adding that clients can see extra speed offered with the new dedicated series of cutters.
TrueMill features an “engagement angle” or “TEA” method to calculate tool paths. According to Surfware, the core problem of milling is the inability to control the cutting tool’s engagement with the material, making it virtually impossible to keep the load on the tool constant. This forces machines to be run at less-aggressive cutting parameters than they are capable of, resulting in longer cycle times.
According to Surfware, TrueMill solves this core problem because the motion of the tool path is designed with consideration for the in-process material boundary everywhere along the tool path to ensure that the tool is never over-engaged for any part geometry. Controlling the engagement angle and using smooth motions allows the tool to run at fast and consistent feed rates, thus reducing cycle time.
