Tungaloy-NTK America Inc. has added an STV-type insert for the TungShortCut series, its internal grooving tool line that utilizes a short-length insert measuring 9 mm in total length. The series includes inserts for grooving (DGS type) and full-radius (DTR type) to accommodate internal grooving and profiling applications.
The STV type insert features a 35-degree corner angle, enabling it to tackle wall and bottom machining in narrow grooving areas where traditional V-shaped ISO inserts would typically interfere, according to the company. The integrated toolholder for the TungShortCut series supports a minimum machining diameter of 12 mm, making it well suited for small-diameter internal groove bottom and profiling applications.
The STV-type insert is equipped with the JS-style chipbreaker for finishing with ISO inserts, which can optimize chip control even during profiling operations that are prone to variable depth of cut. Additionally, it is offered in the versatile PVD-coated grade AH725, which is said to enable long-lasting performance across a wide range of workpiece materials.
With the STV-type insert, the TungShortCut series now offers enhanced capabilities for internal profiling and machining of complex shapes or narrow areas, contributing to productivity improvements across various industries where such tasks were previously challenging.
