Sandvik Coromant Inc. has introduced the GC2220 dedicated turning insert optimized for stainless steel materials that offers increased productivity, longer tool life and higher machine utilization. The GC2220 has been designed to offer higher resistance to plastic deformation and provide greater edge-line security.
The insert is a CVD-coated, gradient-sintered carbide designed specifically for processes ranging from semi-finishing to rough turning under stable conditions where higher wear resistance is required. Sandvik Coromant’s Inveio coating provides unidirectional crystal orientation in the alumina coating layer, delivering higher levels of wear resistance and tool life. This technology is supported by a columnar MT-TiCN inner coating, which is hard and resistant against abrasive wear.
The insert is designed to give machine shops more cutting-tool flexibility and to benefit manufacturers focusing on external and internal turning operations in austenitic and duplex stainless-steel components.
The GC2220 is available for the CoroTurn 107, CoroTurn TR and T-Max P.
