The BA 322 from SW North America is a compact, twin-spindle HMC designed for four- or five-axis machining of small- to medium-size steel, cast iron and light metal workpieces such as brake calipers, hydraulic valves and turbocharger components, including compressor wheels. The HMC can use a twin-swivel trunnion and twin or quadruple five-axis modules to suit the given machining requirement. The double swivel table design enables workpieces to be loaded/unloaded in-cycle. Each of the two workholding units on the twin-swivel trunnion is controlled by as many as eight hydraulic pipes and an additional five pneumatic ones, all featuring rotary distributors.
To ensure precise machining and a rigid framework, the machine incorporates the company’s monobloc machine bed capable of carrying the three-axis unit equipped with a maximum of four spindles. Three different magazine sizes are available, accommodating as many as 128 tools. Tools are changed using the pick-up system. The un-tensioned chain of the magazine reaches speeds as fast as 80 m/min. and runs in a link rail.
